Every establishment needs somebody who can tell its story straight. Around here, that's Dad — and the crew who work the line with him.
This house is the marketing department of the Bumkus establishment: the comic line and the storytellers. The stories are drawn from the real daily work of the houses — the intake, the sorting, the gate, the handoff — told plain, the way Dad tells everything.
Standing: in development. The cast comes out of the record, the presentation is being firmed up, and no issue is on sale yet. When the line rolls, it rolls from here.
Set a MeetingSteady, plainspoken, protective. Stern when it needs it, carefree when it doesn't. The voice of the line.
The gate. Nothing passes that shouldn't, and she'll tell you why to your face.
Intake. Takes everything that comes in the door — and takes on a little too much of it.
The sorting desk. Every piece in its place before anybody else touches it.
Placement and handoff. What leaves the desk arrives where it belongs.
Packaging and output. Makes the finished work presentable for the world.
Why the marketing department wears denim — the first entry, on why the storytellers work in workwear.
